Positive: Izuki Machiya House is located in a neighborhood adjacent to Nishi Honganji Temple. The neighborhood is fairly quiet, though you could hear cars going by in the morning. Not enough to be bothersome, though worth noting. The house is very well kept, rooms were good size, and the main floor with the kitchen and couch had plenty of space for our family of four. We loved the traditional look and feel of the house, and appreciated the modern amenities as well. We stayed 4 nights in early June it was very pleasant at night with the use of the in room air conditioners. The location is walking distance to Kyoto station ( 1/2 mile), and access to plenty of local restaurants and a 7/11 close by. We used Kyoto as our base location and took day trips to Osaka (World Fair) and Hiroshima. The price was a little on the higher end compared to the hotel we stayed at in Tokyo. Though the overall size and location more than made up for the difference. Check in process was very easy and on the way from Kyoto Station. We walked to the house from the check in office. Would highly recommend Izuki Machiya House for anyone looking for a larger traditional place to stay that's conveniently located to transportation and restaurants. The neighborhood is very nice, quiet and conveniently located.

Negative: The only thing that I didn't enjoy was bumping my head on the hood vent in the kitchen. I'm 6-1 and figured out how to get around it after my third encounter. Again, nothing that took away from our stay, just something to be aware of. :)
