Travel Purpose: leisure

Positive: The property is relatively close to the Hakone-Yumoto train station (~12min walk but you have to go up a hill) and it’s nicely kept and clean. Its shared bathrooms and kitchen have decent facilities and it has a nice traditional feel for it. Each room has a heat pump.

Negative: Overall the property would be great value and I would rate it much higher if it weren’t for a few things. Firstly, the room we were initially were put in smelt very badly of smoke. We asked for a change of rooms and the host kindly offered us a new room. Great. Except the second room had no bed, just an extremely thin mattress (it was basically a small duvet) and we were pretty much sleeping on the floor. Additionally, there’s no heating in the lounge and kitchen area.

Summary: Everything is good except expect an uncomfortable sleep
