Positive: Location was amazing. You are right on the canal so nice to see some water and the beautiful Blue heron that would show up every morning. So close to everything. Trains, subways, uber always quick to pick up. Restaurants within walking, convenient stores etc. Several temples and shrines nearby. The home is very well cared for. Beds super comfy. Although one was on the floor - traditional style, but my son said it was great. The home is small but well appointed. bathroom/shower/tub was lovely. Style is very Japanese and the craftmanship of the place is beautiful.

Negative: There is no dining table, so be prepared to stand and in the petite kitchen. We did not eat much in the home, just coffee and some yogurt to get us going, but it was a little inconvenient - and not many places to put items down like your purse, camera, any purchased items. The home is small, so I would recommend a max of 3 people. We traveled with our 20 year old son, we made it work, but I think any more human bodies and we would have been all over each other. You have to leave your luggage downstairs. We used the packing cubes which worked great but if you don't have them, you will be running up and downstairs quite a bit. All of these things are minor compared to all the positives of the place. If you like nice things, you will like your stay at Gion Shirakawa no Yado.
